System Requirements
Here's the nitty gritty of what you need to run First Chair™ (version 1) on your web server:
- PHP 3 programming language support
- Access to your own MySQL database
- FTP access to server to upload files
A word about PHP
If you run your own web server and are running PHP and the beta 1.0 version of First Chair™, either obtain an upgrade to Version 1 or make sure that you turn "Magic Quotes GPC" to OFF. If you have a virtual hosting account and don't know about the PHP settings, check with either your network administrator or technical support of your hosting provider. Most providers will have Magic Quotes set to be off. If they have them set to ON, then you will have to manually go into the administrative files and remove all addslashes() tags from the code. While you can most certainly attempt to venture into the code and do so, we just recommend upgrading to Version 1.
Important Notice to those running their own servers with PHP (June 3, 2002): First Chair™ does not work properly with "out-of-the-box" settings with PHP 4.2 and higher. If you have access to the php.ini file, you must ensure that you have register_globals set to "On". Version 1 doesn't have a work-around for this problem. Most hosting providers, by default, have register_globals set to "on".
If you are unsure about any of the above requirements, contact your web host provider or your system administrator. If you are running your own web server and are not familiar with PHP or MySQL, you can download each of them free on virtually every platform available. Please see their websites for documentation as well.

If you are installing First Chair™ yourself or someone within your organization is going to be installing it, there are a number of customizations that need to take place to make First Chair™ properly run within your environment. Please refer to the documentation and installation instructions that comes with First Chair™.
