About First Chair
First Chair™ really started out as a simple content manager that I was building for cellgroup.com to help them maintain their website. The didn't have volumes of content, but every time they wanted to make a change, they had to go through me to make the change. While some ISP's or design houses might not mind that (it translates into cha-ching for them), this can get spendy if you have frequent changes to your content.
So why not put the power back into the hands of the website owner? It was then that the idea of First Chair™ was born—empowering non-profit organizations, smaller companies, churches and individuals to maintain their website with relative ease.
For the most part, First Chair™ is nearly a "turn-key" solution. There are essentially two things that need your intervention with a text editor: the global variables file (with which you fill in a few values to customize it to your server's specifications) and the header/footer files (where you integrate your website's layout and navigation). With those items in place and changed to suit your server's values and the HTML layout, you're ready to begin creating your menu's, content, and the like.
If that sounds too intimidating, we do offer both basic and custom installations. Basic installations essentially get you set up with the core of First Chair™ with little or no HTML customization. Custom installations include the basic installation plus integration of your HTML template and navigational items.
So What Makes First Chair™ Different From Front Page?
Front Page requires you to buy their proprietary software and requires you to be messing with the entire HTML file, which includes the layout, navigation and the content. With First Chair™, you only touch the content... and through your web browser. So in essence, you don't need any other software other than the web browser that you have installed on your computer... AND you can edit it from anywhere you can get internet access. So whether you're on the road with your laptop or at a cyber cafe in Seattle, you can edit your content with First Chair™ all through your web browser. This makes Front Page an obsolete tool when it comes to editing your website.
The same thing goes for other applications like Go Live, Dreamweaver and other HTML editors. Manage it all with ease through your web browser!
