Many people have been asking about version 2 and when it will be arriving... we're looking at early 2006 here for various reasons. The entire system is being completely overhauled to become more robust, flexible for your custom needs, and robust to accommodate any custom development that you wish to take advantage of.

Some of the features that version 2 will likely include are:

• XML/RSS feed support—page content will be available in an XML/RSS feed so you can dynamically share your content
• Page templating support, allowing you to choose custom looks for different pages
• SWEET WYISIWYG editor options allowing you to edit your content in IE AND MOZILLA/FIREFOX.
• Better user management control, both on the front end and back end
• Improved sessions while using the back-end administrator—no more pesky session timeouts from inactivity
• Optional "baking" feature, allowing you to bake hard-coded PHP or HTML files instead of dynamic pages (index.php?id=pageid)
• GREATLY IMPROVED menu management and more streamlined administration of pages and menu items.

Update to Version 1 of First Chair

Version 1.1 of First Chair is now available. The most significant update is the change in how URL's are handled. If your server is equipped with Apache web server, you now are able to use a URL like this: /index.php/page/mypage/ instead of /index.php?id=mypage. This means better compatability with search engines and the likelihood that your pages will be spidered by the search bots.

This update will affect the following files:

• embedded_navigation.php
• GlobalVariables.php
• a_header.php (template in the /includes folder)
• a_footer.php (template in the /includes folder)

If you wish to update your version of First Chair (version 1 only) to version 1.1 with this new URL fix, please email us and we will send you the new files along with documentation on how to update your links and image references within your template (and your website in general). Email your request to: support AT firstchairsoftware.com. Users with registered editions of version 1 are entitled to a free upgrade to 1.1.
